Brexit Transition Period is due to end 31/12/2020

In preparation for the end of the Brexit Transition Period, we would like to assure you that we are ready to continue sending your shipments to EU countries. Regardless of whether the UK and EU finalise a trade deal, some essential planning towards sending shipments to EU countries will be beneficial.

You can prepare for the transition with the following simple tasks that will help when sending goods to EU countries. All are relevant with or without a deal.

  • Make sure you have obtained an EORI (Economic Operator Registration & Identification number) in advance. This can be done on the EORI information page on GOV.UK
  • Become familiar with commercial invoices which will need to be sent with every shipment of goods to the EU. These are the same as those currently sent with shipments to countries outside the EU. We will submit the detail electronically for you, which is mandatory.
  • Prepare to classify the goods you are sending with an 8-digit tariff commodity code, which relates to the goods you are sending. This again, is available on the GOV.UK site
  • Provide us with your VAT number, which will need to be included on all documentation sent with your goods.

Having the above in place will ensure your shipments can be sent to EU countries, avoiding unnecessary delays.

There are likely to be some delays in transit times while the new procedures come into effect. It is also worth noting there will probably be some increase in costs because of the transition. We will provide any details of these as soon as they are made available to us.

In the meantime should you need any help with the above or want to discuss any of the issues in preparation for the transition, please contact your local office.
